There are some lessons in life that we never want to learn.
Grief was one of them.
If someone had asked me years ago what grief would teach me, I would never have imagined that one of the biggest lessons would be about God's faithfulness.
Losing my dad was one of the hardest experiences I had ever faced.
Years later, losing my mum brought another wave of heartbreak that felt impossible to prepare for.
Anyone who has experienced the loss of someone they love knows that grief changes you. It affects the way you see the world, the way you think, and sometimes even the way you view God.
For a long time, I had questions.
Questions that didn't seem to have answers.
Questions about why certain things happen and why some prayers seem to go unanswered.
I wanted to understand the reasons behind my pain.
Instead, God showed me something even more important.
He showed me His faithfulness.
God's Faithfulness Doesn't Mean Life Will Be Easy
One of the biggest misconceptions I once had was believing that God's faithfulness meant life would go according to my plans.
But faithfulness doesn't mean a life free from heartbreak.
It doesn't mean we'll never experience loss.
It doesn't mean we'll avoid difficult seasons.
What it does mean is that God remains constant through every season we face.
Even when life feels uncertain, His character never changes.
Scripture reminds us:
"Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever." - Hebrews 13:8
When everything around me seemed to change, God remained the same.
God Was With Me Even When I Couldn't Feel It
One of the hardest parts of grief is the loneliness it can bring.
There were moments when I felt overwhelmed.
Moments when I felt exhausted.
Moments when I wondered where God was in the middle of it all.
Looking back now, I can see that His presence never left me.
Even when I couldn't feel Him.
Even when my faith felt weak.
Even when my prayers were nothing more than tears.
God was there.
Sometimes His faithfulness isn't seen in dramatic miracles.
Sometimes it's found in the strength to get through one more day.
Grief Taught Me That Faith Is a Choice
There were days when trusting God felt easy.
There were other days when it felt impossible.
Grief taught me that faith isn't about having all the answers.
Faith is choosing to trust God when you don't.
It's believing He is still good when life doesn't make sense.
It's holding onto His promises when your emotions tell a different story.
And it's continuing to walk forward even when you can't see what lies ahead.
God's Grace Is Enough
One of the greatest gifts I discovered during grief was God's grace.
Not because the pain disappeared.
Not because everything suddenly made sense.
But because His grace met me exactly where I was.
In my sadness.
In my questions.
In my brokenness.
His grace was enough for every difficult day.
And it still is.
What I Know Today
There are still things I don't understand.
I still miss my parents.
I still have moments when grief catches me by surprise.
But I know this:
God has been faithful through every chapter of my life.
He was faithful when I was a child fighting for my life.
He was faithful when I lost my dad.
He was faithful when I lost my mum.
He was faithful when I walked away from Him.
And He was faithful when He gently led me back.
Grief taught me many things.
But above all, it taught me that God's faithfulness is not dependent on my circumstances.
His faithfulness is part of who He is.
And because of that, I can trust Him with whatever lies ahead.
A Prayer for Anyone Walking Through Grief
Father,
Thank You for being close to the brokenhearted.
When grief feels overwhelming, remind us that we are never alone. Help us trust You when life doesn't make sense and strengthen our faith when we feel weak.
Thank You for Your constant presence, Your unfailing love, and Your faithfulness through every season.
Give comfort to those who are grieving today and fill their hearts with hope for the days ahead.
In Jesus' name,
Amen.
Final Encouragement
If you're grieving today, I want you to know that God sees you.
He sees every tear.
He hears every prayer.
And He remains faithful, even in the middle of heartbreak.
You may not understand everything you're walking through right now, but you can trust the One who walks beside you.
His faithfulness has never failed.
And it never will.
